“Buddy” is a smart, cute and classy guy. Registered name, Big Timer, he is beautifully bred, by Giant’s Causeway and out of the Successful Appeal mare, Appealing Zophie. He was lightly raced and retired a maiden because evidently he wasn’t that interested in going fast. He was trained by Graham Motion, a fantastic horsemen who is known not only for his great ability as a race trainer but also his commitment to the ethical treatment of his horses. Buddy’s luck continued to hold when he was adopted by his current owner from the Secretariat Center in July 2017. In her 70’s she has ridden him at fundamental dressage and trail ridden him extensively. If she could have it her way, she would keep him forever but alas, this is not meant to be. Due to serious health issues of her husband, she has decided to let Buddy go to someone with the time to give to him. She feels it isn’t fair for him to sit and wait for her all too spaced out visits. She has sent him to Leighton Farm to be ridden and ultimately to find his forever home.
Buddy stands 16 hands and is 8 years old. Buddy has lots of ability and is receiving correct development and training to prepare him for whatever comes next. He is currently being ridden and trained by head trainer of Leighton Farm, Kimberly Godwin Clark. He’s been hacked about the farm many times and is nearly bomb proof. Our work in the arena continues to progress with solid walk, trot and canter. He is a bit of a push ride. I have introduced him to jumping with fundamental gymnastics and he demonstrated great potential in that area. He also seems to really like it!
Buddy has no vices other than an overwhelming desire to shake you down for treats. He only receives them after his workout, so that’s under control! He is friendly, kind and cute and he will nuzzle you to show his affection. His only issue is he is in glue on shoes. We plan to put him in nail on shoes when his feet have grown out.
Buddy is offered for a $2500 adoption fee and is located at Leighton Farm in Upper Marlboro, MD.
