Gruel – Found a Home 7/2017

Gruel is a 7 year old, 16.1 hand Thoroughbred gelding who raced only 10 times.  I loved this horse from the first moment I saw him and looked forward to developing him into a first class – whatever he wants to be, but I broke my wrist in the fall and have not found the time to ride him regularly since healing.  I got so far behind on everything that I’m still playing catch up.  I have had the time to teach him to longe correctly and have gotten him going in the arena at the walk and trot.  He is wonderful but he is a lot of horse.  This guy needs someone who knows how to retrain and ride a retired racehorse.  Although he is kind, he’s too athletic for an average rider.  He sits down and uses her rear end to balance himself more than any horse I’ve ever worked with.  Normally it takes me about one year to get at horse where he is now with regard to balancing on all four corners.

Oliver as I call him is good for the vet, farrier and dentist.  When I shipped him here he walked right on the trailer and shipped quietly but I have not had him off the farm since.  I know this horse could be an amazing jumper, eventer or dressage horse if I can get him in the right hands.  He is pure class.

Gruel is available to a good home where the new owner is either skilled to take over his training.  He is located at Leighton Farm in Upper Marlboro, Maryland and offered for a $2,500 adoption fee.
